Program Description
A Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing is a graduate degree that entails rigorous, studio-based study for those who wish to be professional writers. Unlike an MA, the MFA is often a terminal degree in the sense that it is the final degree a student can earn in the field. The program of study is quite workshop-intensive and designed toward the production of a book-length manuscript or portfolio in a single genre, which can be fiction, poetry, or creative nonfiction. These graduates can work as professional writers, writing instructors for colleges, editors, or publishers.
