The Cape Breton University (CBU) is a publicly funded university established in 1951, located in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, on Cape Breton Island. Originally established as Xavier Junior College, the university went through several transformations before bearing the name Cape Breton University in 2005. It has since become a lively university distinguished by its quest for academic excellence, research, and community development. CBU offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degrees in Arts, Science, Business, Health, Education, and specialized Indigenous studies. The university itself is institutionally accredited by virtue of membership with national higher education associations, whereas several programs are professionally accredited too.
